Wynne Mattila – 2011

Wynne Mattila's "Aurora" rug. She says, "My 'Aurora' Rug was inspired by the colors of the aurora borealis (the northern lights) and a Finnish Lapp weaving called raanu. Raanu are traditionally woven with wool. They are tied together to make the covering of a goahti (a tee-pee like structure) or for warmth as badcovers in the Arctic climate."

This rug can be made on two harnesses.
Warp: 8/5 wet-spun Irish linen
Sett: 10 epi 
Weft: Halcyon Geo singles wool yarn: seven cool colors and eight warm colors
Size: twenty-nine inches wide by fifty-nine inches long plus fringe lengths
