Sheep Avoids Shearing for More Than Six Years

This is what a sheep looks like after avoiding shearing for more than six years:

The Merino sheep, named Shrek, was just one of 17,000 sheep residing on a farm in New Zealand. He became a recluse of sorts, hiding from his owners in caves for several years to avoid shearing. When he was finally found, the 10-year-old sheep was hardly recognizable and had enough wool to produce 20 men's suits.

Sixty pounds of Shrek's wool was shorn on live television and auctioned off, earning money that was ultimately donated to charity.

Shrek lived a curiously long life, passing away at the ripe old age of 17 in 2011. But his spirit lives on in the hearts of many–the famous sheep made several media appearances and even had his own special barn.
