A Doubleweave Doubleheader

Jennifer Moore is the undisputed diva of doubleweave. Which is why we are so proud to have worked with her on both of her doubleweave workshops: Doubleweave on a 4-Shaft Loom and Block Doubleweave on 8 Shafts.

Most weavers know of doubleweave as a way to create cloth that is twice the width of their loom, but there is so much more to it. Depending on how you lock your threads at the selvages, doubleweave cloth can be two separate layers, a single double-width layer, or a tube of fabric. Working with two contrasting colors lets you alternate light and dark on your top and bottom layers of fabric, creating reversed designs on each side. In Doubleweave on a 4-Shaft Loom, Jennifer shows you everything you need to get started weaving doubleweave: from winding a double warp and threading your loom, to using a variety of hand-and loom-controlled methods. You’ll weave a sampler with 10 doubleweave techniques, including doubleweave pick-up.

If you’ve already worked with doubleweave, and want to learn more, check out Jennifer’s follow-up workshop, Block Doubleweave on 8 Shafts. More shafts mean greater weaving possibilities. Jennifer focuses on block doubleweave and you’ll be amazed at all you can weave just by changing your tie-up or treadling. Don’t have a floor loom? She demonstrates on a table loom as well. And here’s a secret: you can weave the same 8-shaft sampler on your table loom without ever having to change your tie-up.
