Breaking the "rules" log cabin weave

I wanted to try out a log cabin weave; I'd seen a blog post where someone talked about not using solid colours for their yarns.  So, I used some worsted weight my daughter and I dyed, as well as some solid worsted and gave it a shot.  While it was still on the loom, it was very disappointing — the pattern was lost in the colours.  It still looked pretty, but I chalked it up to a learning experience.

Once off the loom and it had a chance to rest overnight, the pattern became more evident.  And then once it was washed, it was more evident still.  In sunlight, it is very evident.  In other lighting it's rather more subtle.  However, it seems, all told, to have been a success.
