Anita Luvera Mayer in Topeka
First off, a big thank you to Diane Hooper, president of the Topeka Handweavers and Spinners for tipping us off about this week’s BeWeave It. Anita Luvera Mayer’s textile works are magnificent—beautifully woven cloth in a rainbow of colors, often featuring surface embellishments from fringe to embroidery and shisha mirrors. She is a true creative genius and just admiring her work can feel like getting a masterclass in creativity. Most of us have to see her work online, in magazines (like Handwoven), or in books, but if you happen to be in Kansas in April and want to see some of her works in person, you are in luck! Anita Luvera Mayer is the keynote speaker at the Kansas Alliance of Weavers and Spinners Conference (April 15–17) and her mantels will be on display at the Sabatini Gallery of the Topeka Public Library during that time.
