The Pinellas Weavers’ Guild

A bevy of spin-ins with fascinating names have been held in Western Australia as reported in The YarnSpinner—the Busselton at St. Mary’s Family Centre, the Perth Medieval Fayre at the Supreme Court Gardens, the Dianella Spinners at Craft House in Menora, the 30th Toodyay at Memorial Hall, Sterling Range Fibre Weekend, the Porongurups, and the Bothwell International Highland Spin-In. The Longest Thread Contest is held in Bothwell (Tasmania) every two years. The challenge is to spin 10 grams of fleece (about 1/3 of an ounce) into the longest thread possible. The Pinellas Weavers’ Guild (Florida) has sent entries to this competition every two years since 1993 and has won a prize each time. The goal this year was to win as the guild with the most entries. The next contest will be in 2011 with applications due in November 2010.
