What If Sleeping Beauty Had a Real Spinning Wheel?

For non-spinners, a spinning wheel is the nasty, cursed piece of equipment on which Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger. I suspect that every spinner has patiently pointed out that the fairy tale is false. Few of today’s spinning wheels have a sharp piece known as a quill or spindle, and even those aren’t deadly. Spinning wheels do make magic, though.

Kromski Minstrel

For Spin Off’s 40th Anniversary Giveaway, our friends at Kromski decided to play fairy godmother and give one lucky spinner a spinning wheel package worthy of wishing upon a star. The Kromski Minstrel, an upright wheel with two treadles, can be set up to work in double drive or scotch tension. Adding to the fairy-tale look, the Minstrel features signature beautiful turning, honed over Kromski’s century in woodworking. Interweave project editor Laura Hulslander has a Minstrel of her own, and she says, “I love all the beautifully turned spokes and finials on my wheel. It’s pretty; it looks like a nice piece of furniture rather than simply a utilitarian object.”

The prize package includes a jumbo flyer and carrying bag in addition to the spinning wheel. Although not classified as a travel wheel, the Minstrel is portable enough to carry along to spinning group. You don’t need to remain locked in a castle to enjoy spinning on this wheel.

Join in and see if your wish comes true.
