Explore the Textile Museums virtual exhibits
|Common Threads is just one of the online presentations you can find on the Textile Museum's website.|
Last month, the Palmetto Fiber Arts Guild (South Carolina) shared a story on its blog about a recent exhibit at the Textile Museum in Washington, D.C. Guild member Judy Warren heard a story about a Syrian silk cap that was part of the Sultan's Garden: The Blossoming of Ottoman Art exhibit at the museum. The cap was mentioned by NPR correspondent Susan Stamberg in a story that offered a glimpse into a more peaceful time in Syria's past through the textile.
I continue to marvel at the way textiles can connect us to the very human daily life of those from whom we are separated by culture and generations. The Textile Museum has great online exhibits that allow a closer look at some of the pieces in the collections and provide information on techniques, terminology, and culture. The museum website also provides great information on storing and displaying textiles.
