Black Sheep Handspinners Guild (New York)
Roc Day 2009 is already being planned by the Black Sheep Handspinners Guild (New York) to take place in a new venue next January. The success of those held in the past is due to their organization of tasks on a timeline and the willingness of members to serve on the committees. The timeline begins with a mailing in October to announce the event to area guilds and yarn shops. The second phase is arranging for free publicity in the local newspapers and on television and radio stations three weeks before the event is held. Next year’s celebration will include spindling or spinning lessons throughout the day and a mystery fiber contest as part of an educational outreach. The Congregational Church in Cayuga Heights offers classroom space and ample paved (and plowed) parking space. In addition, there will be a kid’s corner, raffle, and vendors. Visitors from Rochester, Utica, Pennsylvania, and points east attended this year’s event which added three new members to the guild.
