Sneak Peek: Lascaux DK from Ancient Arts Yarn
|Sponsored| We see a lot of new yarn at Interweave. Beautiful hand-dyed yarns, super-fluffy fibers, yarn that won’t break the bank, and yarn that most definitely will. But it’s unusual to come across a yarn that is not just lovely or practical, but truly interesting. And a yarn made from a rare sheep is most definitely interesting.
For this sneak peek, join Allison Korleski, host of Fiber Nation podcast to meet a very special yarn. Lascaux DK from Ancient Arts Yarn is a gorgeous hand-dyed blend of 2 different wools. The Corriedale fleece is soft, strong and good for knitting just about anything.
Sneak Peek: Meet Ancient Arts Yarns Lascaux DK
Allison shows off some of the gorgeous colorways of Lascaux DK, shares the history of the Manx Loaghtan sheep that makes this yarn so special, and reveals what happened to the swatch she wore in her waistband for a week.
The Manx wool is also soft, strong, and good for knitting just about anything. But here’s the exciting, interesting bit. The Manx sheep was all but extinct less than 50 years ago. (If you want to know more about that, there’s a whole podcast episode.)
Manx wool is brown, which sounds like an odd choice for a hand-dyed yarn. But the brown fibers give a depth and richness to every shade of Lascaux, light and dark. You can actually see the Manx wool as little brown flecks that appear here and there, giving a lovely rustic look to whatever you knit.
Lascaux is the only commercial yarn that uses Manx wool. To learn more about the sheep and their story, be sure to watch the video!
