Ready, Set, Tat
We are very excited to announce the publication of a new Interweave book—New Tatting: Modern Lace Motifs and Projects by Tomoko Morimoto! This beautiful book offers clear instructions for tatting with one or two shuttles and 28 projects ranging from bookmarks to the stunning Cherry Blossom Shawl. The large step-by-step color illustrations and photographs are outstanding.
The art of tatting has always been woven into the fabric of my life. My mother tatted as far back as I can remember, so I suspect I was introduced to it before I was even born. Mom was always tatting and I was the recipient of many of works: there was the gorgeous white lacy collar she added to my dress for a piano recital and my school blouse spiced up with some pretty tatted trim and ruby red beads. My childhood memories are all embellished with a bit of tatting…. I share this book with you in hopes that you too will discover the pleasures of this centuries old craft and find a place for tatting in your modern life!
This book will appeal to those who already tat and to those who are eager to learn (the latter category includes a few of the Needlework Tradtions staff!). All aspects of shuttle tatting are covered here: how to wind the shuttle, how to tat a double stitch in a chain, how to “flip” the knot, how to work from a tatting diagram, tips and tricks, fixing mistakes, and finishing techniques. And throughout, Tomoko’s love of tatting shines through.
Enjoy New Tatting!
