Farewell to Downton Abbey

How can Downton Abbey end?! I know and love the characters like my own family! I think about

them during the day. I wonder how they are doing. I wonder if they’re happy or sad at this very moment. I believe I can fly over to Yorkshire and find this magical home with all my friends there in their fabulous clothing, surrounded by all of that lovely period furniture and architecture! I’ve viewed all of the “sneak peaks” and now I am even more eager to watch the last 8 episodes, which began airing on PBS in the U.S. on January 3rd.

I don’t know what I’ll do to manage my angst. Fortunately, PieceWork has recently compiled 8 beautiful knitting patterns inspired by Downton and designed with the “upstairs” women in mind. These patterns are from two special PieceWork issues, The Unofficial Downton Abbey Knits 2013 & 2014. I love these patterns because they are so delicate and elegant. In particular, my favorites are the Garden Bouquet Shawl by Kyoko Nakayoshi and the Driving Gloves by Vicki Square. It’s easy to imagine Lady Mary wearing this Garden Bouquet Shawl with her new sleek haircut. I can also see Edith wearing the elegant Driving Gloves, especially now as she becomes more confident in her role leading the publishing company.  While I’m watching the last of this wonderful show, I’ll be knitting away. The show may end, but my love for Downton Abbey will never fade.
