Your Knitting: Knitters Take on Knitscene Winter Knitting Patterns
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again because it’s still true—my favorite part of working on Knitscene is seeing the finished projects knit by our readers. Knitscene Winter 2014 was full of fantastic sweaters that made my own to-knit list grow a lot, but I especially wanted my own version of the cover sweater, Hilary Smith Calli’s Thyri Pullover. Knit in the round from the top down with simple reverse stockinette bands, this is a great first sweater knitting pattern.
And finally, in January, I had time to cast on my own version! I used Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage, which the pattern calls for, in the color “Laurel.” (Any Green Arrow fans out there as amused by the combination of the deep green color and the name Laurel as I am?)
I made some modifications along the way. I moved the decreases and increases for waist shaping from the sides to the front and the back—I just feel that it’s more flattering to my body type to put them there. I have no idea if that’s right. I also worked fewer rounds in the sleeves, because my row gauge was a bit different than Hilary’s, but I have decided that all of my sweaters now have to have extra long sleeves and thumbholes—especially for days when it’s snowing outside!
I ended up reworking the neck because at my gauge, it came out a little bit wider than I wanted, but I used the numbers for the next smallest size and it worked out perfectly! I just wish the weather here in Colorado would cooperate more for those of us with awesome new sweaters to wear.
Thyri’s also been a popular pattern amongst the knitters! When I looked on Ravelry to see what projects people were making, there are so many great Thyri Pullovers out there. But Kiyomi Burgin’s Tongshan Sweater and Beatrice Perron Dahlen’s Purbeck Pullover are also getting a lot of knitted love! Here’s a very short round up of some of the incredible projects knitters have made from Knitscene Winter 2015.
Feeling inspired? All of the patterns from Knitscene Winter 2014 are now available for individual purchase in the Interweave Store! And you can still nab a digital copy of Knitscene Winter 2014 if you just can’t choose and want all of the patterns!
