Today: Kits on Sale!
I am a big fan of kits. I like having everything I need to make a project all together, one stop shopping as it were. Interweave has had some fun kits lately, from both Knits and Knitscene. I'm looking at one from the former today, Teresa Gregorio's Rock Quarry Stole Kit from Interweave Knits Fall 2014.
Rock Quarry Stole
by Teresa Gregorio
As I have previously mentioned, I really like scarves. They are an awesome way to add different texture and color to your outfit without having to think too much about it or make too many decisions. The Rock Quarry Stole is made from Imperial Yarn's Erin, a 100% wool Aran weight, manufactured without the use of any sketchy chemicals or high temperatures. This means that it is soft and lush, the perfect yarn for neck wear. The body of the stole is made using linen stitch, a lovely and rhythmic pattern.
Here are some shots of the right side (L) and wrong side (R) up close so you can see what cool textures this piece has. While the photo on the right is traditionally the right side when you are using linen stitch, Teresa opted to make it the wrong side. Therefore the right side looks pebbly and truly woven, but it's knit! I like the interest this use of linen stitch adds to the project, it's unusual and intriguing.

This is a great piece for practicing linen stitch, short-rows, and grafting. You start knitting with the lace and bobble "Mimosa Border", continue with linen stitch and graft the second lace edging to the stole once you've finished the main body. There is also really beautiful short-row work toward each end of this stole, adding some fun shaping and interesting knitting.
