Technique Thursday: the Chain-Edge Cast-on

This week, we had our first snow. It was brief, and none of it stuck around, but it hammered home the point: winter is coming. Time to knit yourself some snuggly accessories! Interweave Knits Winter 2015 features some great accessories, such as Erica Schlueter's Tanawha Wrap and  Fall River Cowl.

Both are quick, cozy projects with neat details like welts and a unique cast-on, the chain-edge cast-on. The chain-edge cast-on is a simple technique using a crochet hook that produces a cast-on edge that looks exactly like the bind-off edge, and can also be used as a provisional cast-on. I put together a quick video to show how to make a chain-edge cast-on, both as a decorative edge and as a provisional cast-on. Break out your crochet hooks and needles, and follow along with me!

Hope you're inspired to try a new technique and knit a wrap or cowl of your own!
