Take an Online Sock-Knitting Class!
Have you ever wanted to take a sock-knitting class, but maybe there wasn't one offered in your area? Well, now there's a class available wherever you live!
|The Anatomy of a Sock. Learn how to make your own socks with our new online
course Knitting Socks for Beginners
with Kate Atherley
Teacher and designer Kate Atherley is teaching an online course that covers everything a beginning sock knitter needs to know. The month-long course, Knitting Socks for Beginners, starts on September 29, 2013.
There are five lessons:
Lesson one will get you started. Kate will introduce you to the basics of construction, talk about the different kinds of needles you'll use, and teach you how to choose your size.
Lesson two goes over the heel construction and discussed the heel flap and the heel turn. Kate will tell you what these things are and how to knit them.
Lesson three is all about the sock gusset. You'll learn what it is and why it's important, how to pick up stitches, and how to work the gusset decreases. Lesson three ends with Kate teaching you how far to work the foot portion of the sock before starting the toe.
Lesson four will keep you on your toes! You'll learn how to decrease for the toe and an easy way to close up the toe.
Lesson five will give you more information about finishing your socks, including how to do the Kitchener Stitch, a popular technique used to finish the toes on your knitted socks.
Kate will also advise you about what to look for in a sock pattern, how to measure your foot, how to choose good sock yarn. She'll instruct you how to further your sock-knitting skills, too, suggesting pattern stitches and even touching on colorwork, cables, and lace.
You'll even get an introduction to toe-up socks and the Magic Loop knitting technique.
There's so much value here! What a wonderful way to learn to knit socks; you'll fall in love with the technique, too. Soon you'll have a wardrobe of hand-knitted socks, and your friends and family will be asking you for knitted socks for their birthdays and holidays!
