Four Slow Fashion Influencers to Follow

Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

In an era marked by rapid trends and disposable fashion, the world of slow fashion embraces a lifestyle that not only celebrates creativity and individuality but also champions ethical consumption and environmental consciousness. We love that slow-fashion makers are changing the fashion landscape, stitch by stitch, and inspiring others to embrace a more sustainable and hands-on approach to dressing. If you’re looking to expand your hand-knit wardrobe and even include more hand-sewn garments, read on to discover slow-fashion influencers at the heart of maker-friendly fashion.

Sew Liberated

Meg McElwee, the founder of indie pattern company Sew Liberated, is a sewist, knitter, and blogger. She offers three different courses: the Mindful Wardrobe Project, and classes for beginners and advanced sewists. Sew Liberated is all about “sewing, mindfully” and promotes sewing as self-care.

Jacqueline Cieslak

Jacqueline Cieslak is a designer and teacher based in California who wants to aid people in creating a sustainable wardrobe that honors their bodies. They are a sewist and knitter whose focus is to create pieces that are inclusive and accessible for a range of people! Jacqui has a blog where they write about the pieces they make and show how they look on different body types.

Sewrena

I’ve been following Sewrena for years and for good reason! If you are a lover of retro fashion like me, her account is worth a follow. It is flowing with inspiration! Sewrena is a designer who creates amazing outfits through vintage patterns. She has a YouTube channel showing her sewing journey along with plenty of informative content for sewists.

SKABERGLÆDE

Maria, the woman behind Skaberglaede is from Denmark, and is a sewist, knitter, crocheter, and so much more! Colorful knitwear and fun patterned clothes cover her Instagram account. She has DIY videos and shows her WIPs along her Instagram feed. She also has her own website

The feeling of wearing something you’ve made with your own hands is incredibly rewarding. As amazing as the concept of slow fashion is, transforming your wardrobe can’t be done overnight— and can take quite a bit of time and money. Materials, knowledge, and time can be difficult to find, so if you are just starting your journey, start small. Look up local craft thrift stores, or even head to a local antique mall for materials. And be sure to follow slow fashion influencers like these to keep you inspired!
