Embrace Shifting Seasons with Interweave Knits Fall 2022

Fall is my favorite season. The moment the calendar turns to September, I can feel a shift in the air. The days are still warm, but there is a scent on the breeze that lets you know it won’t last long. And the nights! The warmth of the day breaks and you find yourself needing to grab a sweater to say outside just a bit longer. Contented sigh, I love it so.

Take a Look Inside

In this Fall 2022 issue of Interweave Knits, we’re embracing those warm days and cool nights with two inspired collections. In each you’ll find garments and accessories that range from super cozy to combat the cold, to light enough for layering even in the heat.

Despite knowing I shouldn’t play favorites, I’ve already ordered the yarn to make myself a Susurrous Cardigan by Olya Mikesh. From the moment I saw the sample in our office, I knew I couldn’t go another fall without it in my wardrobe. 

Alongside the many beautiful and versatile patterns in this issue, Tamara Moots shares a look at what it took for yarn store owner Kelsey Patton to open The Fiber Mill. And my friend Kyle Kunnecke teaches beginner steekers how to make their first cut. I’ll be joining all those steeking for the first time when I make the Susurrous Cardigan.

Get Ready for Fall Feelings

Whether I’m able to finish that cardigan in time to wear it this fall is another story. Although I’m told by friends that I’m a fast knitter, I know that along with the temperature shift will come the desire to knit many things . . . all the things. I see it as the woolly version of a squirrel gathering nuts for winter. I need to prepare for the bleakness of February. Fiber festivals must be visited. Many skeins of yarn must be purchased—despite my having a plentiful stash. 

Perhaps you know those feelings, too. I hope you surrender to all that this season pulls you to do. Turn your face to the warmth of the fall sun, grab a sweater and stay outside a few extra minutes, add to your yarn stash, and fall in love with a new project that you can’t wait to cast on. I’ll be doing the same along with you.
