POW: Time-Out Tank by Nadya Stallings

I love the heck out of tank tops. I wear them all the time—on their own when it’s warm or under several layers in the Colorado winter. They are super versatile: one simple tank top can go a long way, be worn in a variety of outfits and throughout multiple seasons, and can be dressed up or down. Knitted tank tops can be an interesting endeavor. They require the right gauge and fiber to succeed as a lightweight garment that can be worn alone or as a layering piece. Knitscene Summer 2017 plays around with the idea of the handknitted tank top and features a range of fun summer tanks in warm-weather yarns, including a textural and flowy pattern from Nadya Stallings called the Time-Out Tank.

The A-line silhouette of the Time-Out Tank is simple and feminine, and the neckline modest. The lovely Fisherman’s Rib texture throughout the top, paired with subtle colorwork along the edges, add interest to a straightforward garment. The Bio Sesia 5 used in this pattern is a lovely, drapey yarn that is soft and organic, so that’s a plus for the planet.

This top reminds me of something that, were it available at a clothing store like Old Navy, would be available in a variety of agreeable color combinations, like black with white trim, white with black trim, navy with white trim, some brighter options, etc., to go with every and any outfit, and to suit all sorts of different color preferences. That sounds like a lot of fun to me, actually: knitting several of the same top in different colors that fit into your wardrobe well. When I like a certain garment, I really like it and want to wear it everyday, so having multiple colors of the same thing sounds like a great thing. Especially when they’re items I can move around in easily.

The Time-Out Tank presents a great opportunity to create something that you’ll want to wear all the time. It’s comfortable, and with the range of available colors for this yarn, you’re sure to find something that will suit your personal wardrobe.
