Pattern of the Week: Tahki Chestnut Pullover
|Sponsored| I don’t know what draws your eye when considering a knitting pattern, but I am all about the little design details that make a garment special. In the case of the Chestnut Pullover from the Tahki Terra Collection, it’s the muppet sleeves. Okay, that’s not the technical term for what I am talking about. What I am supposed to say here is that Tahki Yarns Glacier, a 100% superfine alpaca yarn, can be used to emulate faux fur in a project. But ultimately, I look at the sleeve detail on the Chestnut and immediately find comfort and joy in the fact that there is a bit of fuzzy muppet whimsy.
Check out the finished object on our lovely and talented social media manager, Andrea. While she wore it for this shoot, I found myself petting her wrist. Of course I made some excuse about assisting with styling (“Let me style your sleeve for you!” I said), but I found it oddly comforting to stroke the superfine alpaca fibers. She happily put up with it. When I asked her if the jumbo wool yarn (Tahki Yarns Montana) that comprises the majority of this pullover felt itchy, her emphatic reaction was “No way. This thing is super cozy.” I was sold.
Is it really the muppet aspect of the sleeve that has me taken with this project, or the overall appeal of jumbo yarn? I’m pretty sure it’s both. But it’s also the promise of a frigid Rocky Mountain winter. This could be the pullover worn around the fire pit while enjoying the company of good friends and a cup of warm holiday cheer. It could be the go-to garment that is just warm enough to wear alone without having to step up your game with a fleece layer.
So many winter possibilities dwell in the broken rib pattern. It makes me crave short, dark days and long, chilly nights – simply so I can wear it as much as possible. This pullover has long-time potential ahead. And, you know, muppets.
