POW: Hippolyta’s Cover-up
I have been looking at swimsuit cover-ups for years only to be disappointed by an endless barrage of weird, cheap fabrics with silly themes or patterns. But when we received the Hippolyta’s Cover-up by Lena Zharichenko for Interweave Knits Summer 2017, I had met my summer project soul mate.
A quick knit with a fun silhouette and an interesting border—I imagined myself happily walking along in a swimming suit while feeling nicely covered but without sweating through the fabric! Did I mention how much of a disappointment swimsuit cover-ups can be? This project fixes everything I’ve had issue with: It is breezy, unique, and easy to remove.
You’ll find Shibui Twig to be a lovely vibrantly dyed yarn. Its combination of linen, recycled silk, and wool knits into a cool fabric, with an effortless drape. I chose the color Fjord for my project. (Look for my WIP soon!)
Hippolyta’s Cover-up forms a rectangle shape, using a simple drop-stitch technique. The sportweight yarn knit on size 9 (5.5 mm) needles will make this project fly off your needles. And, with an easy level of difficulty, this is the perfect project to knit while you’re traveling.
Finished Size 49.25 (55.5, 58.25, 63.5, 67.5, 73.25, 79.5)” wide and 30″ long. Cover-up shown measures 58.25″; modeled on a 32″ bust.
