Pattern of the Week: Enantiomer Pullover
I have been thinking of knitting a sweater now for a while, as my coworkers can attest. But finding the right pattern has become something of a challenge. I’ve seen many, many lovely patterns pass over my desk, but I get nervous about doing something too complex—after all, whatever I end up picking out will be my first ever attempt at a sweater.
There are a number of striking sweater designs to be found in Wool Studio Vol. VII. The many talented designers therein did an amazing job with the theme of asymmetry, producing patterns that marry simple and complex techniques to create pieces both straightforward and challenging.
Perhaps my favorite, however, is the Enantiomer Pullover from designer Estefania Espindola. This gorgeous pullover is worked in the round from the bottom up to the sleeves before separating to work the front and back. Sleeves are worked in the round to the sleeve cap.
The sweater has such a classic silhouette, starting with a twisted ribbing that really lets the knit stitches shine before transitioning into the main body of the pullover. The exquisite cabling is worked in an easy-to-memorize pattern and uses twisted stitches to continue the theme from the hem. The elegant, intricate-looking pattern is offset by lots and lots of clean stockinette, which gives you a chance to sit back and just knit
I do need to take at least a moment to gush about the yarn, because the first thing that caught my attention about this piece was its color. The pale blue colorway of Homestead (affiliate link) suits the simplicity of the sweater. The durable, 100 percent Peruvian wool fiber of the yarn makes it perfect for knitting warm, cozy pieces to keep out winter’s chill.
Remember to count your stitches!
