Craving chunky cables? Check out the Mackinaw blanket from Plum Dandi Knits

Just in case you missed it, we LOVE Plum Dandi Knits here at Interweave, and it looks like a lot of other knitters on Ravelry do too. Although all of the projects in the book are beyond beautiful, there is a definite standout we thought you should see.

Take a peek at the Mackinaw blanket. This is the chunky blanket of our knitting dreams! Worked up in a neutral-toned yarn, the Mackinaw is a surprisingly easy knit that looks anything but. Oversized cables add deep texture and interest to this perfectly luxurious statement blanket that’s just begging to find a place in your home.

But don’t take it solely from us. We aren’t the only ones who love the Mackinaw; here’s what co-author Melissa Schaschwary had to say about it:

One of my favorite projects from [the book] is the Mackinaw blanket. Since the first time I set my hands on Malabrigo yarn way back in the day (oh my gosh it’s SO soft), I joked that I’d love to have a giant blanket knit from it. I always said it would feel like wrapping myself in bunnies . . . and that is exactly what it feels like! Honestly . . . it’s pure heaven.

Before the book project came up, my design schedule and schedule at home with my girls (we homeschool and are very involved in music and dance) made it such that I found it hard to imagine fitting in the time to knit a blanket. In my head, the task seemed like it would take up so much time, much more than it actually did in reality. The book was the perfect reason to give myself the excuse to sit down and create this one knit I’d dreamed of for so long.

Once I started knitting it, I couldn’t believe how quickly it worked up and was actually kind of bummed when it came to an end so quickly! I’ve never been so sad to crack into a last skein of yarn.

Each of the projects I created for the book has an absolute special place in my heart, but the Mackinaw blanket is kind of my dream project, and I just love it dearly.
