5 Reasons to Love Learning Remotely with Interweave @ Home

Remote learning Interweave @ Home
Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

Reflecting on the ways our community has changed over the last few years, one of the positive and most exciting shifts has been the boom in remote learning for makers. We’re no longer limited to begging our local guild to invite our favorite instructor (and hoping that instructor is willing to travel), nor do we have to wait for the next in-person event to happen. We can learn from the comfort of our own homes!

That’s what Interweave @ Home is all about. We get to connect with amazing instructors without leaving our living rooms, but there are a ton of other benefits you might not have considered. So, we’re breaking down all the reasons we love learning remotely.

5 Reasons to Love Learning Remotely with Interweave @ Home

Access to a Wider Variety of Instructors

Through the magic of Zoom, instructors no longer need to travel to teach, which means students now have access to more teachers than ever before. Instructors who only taught at their local stores can now reach students anywhere in the world, and students in Australia don’t need to commit to an 11-hour flight to learn in-person with U.S. based instructions (although, they might need to become night owls!).

Never Forget Your Homework

If you’ve ever attended an in-person class, you might have noticed that student who didn’t print the handout before class, grabbed the wrong supplies, or had their luggage confiscated by the TSA. You will never be that student when learning at home. You’ve got access to your stash of supplies, whenever you need them.

Live Interactive Learning

Unlike traditional video workshops which are prerecorded, Interweave @ Home classes are live! So, you’re able to interact with the instructor, ask questions, and connect with other students. And if you miss the live class, you have access to the recording for 30 days after the livestream. You’ll be able to watch it again and again to learn at your own pace during that time. Pause, rewind, listen to the instructions again, watch that tricky bit one more time, and enjoy the process of mastering a new technique.

Free Snacks, Coffee, and No Line for the Bathroom

With your kitchen just a few steps away, you’ve got all the snacks and beverages you like close at hand to get you through class. Plus, you don’t need to wait in line to use the loo. Not to mention, you could easily enjoy class in your pajamas. It’s up to you if you turn your video on or off! And you don’t have to worry about the student next to you wearing strong perfume … nor do you have to worry about not being able to hear the teacher because you arrived at class late and the only seat left was way in the back … and bringing your cat or dog to class won’t give allergy-sensitive classmates hives or sniffles.

Limited Class Sizes for More One-on-One Attention

Interweave @ Home limits the number of students in its live classes to allow for more one-on-one student and teacher interaction. Instructors aren’t at the mercy of a large room where they need to walk from table to table asking if folks need help. Instead, questions can be popped into the group chat, or asked directly to the teacher. And then, that teacher can demonstrate the answer to students’ questions in a way that everyone can easily see! It’s Q&A that benefits the entire class. Plus, you get to see that answer up close and personal on your computer screen—as if it is being demonstrated just for you.

I’ve only just started to scratch the surface of the benefits of remote learning. As we begin learning new techniques through Interweave @ Home, I can’t wait to see your favorite parts! Make sure you come back and share in the comments below.
