Madder Stockings knitting pattern by Rebecca Blair

Madder Stockings

Shetland lace is iconic for its stunning, fine detail. Rebecca Blair drew inspiration for the Madder Stockings from a veil that was showcased at the first World’s Fair in 1851. Cuffs taken from the shawls’ edging lead into a lace zig-zag pattern that travels down the front of the sock. The socks are made from the top down, with a gusset heel, in a laceweight blend of Merino and silk. Wear these delicate lace socks with Mary Janes and a sundress for a cute, summery look.

Snowflower Socks

The Snowflower Socks, designed by Manuela Burkhardt, are pure Merino wool, polyamide, and silk. This superfine yarn blend is soft to the touch and will keep your feet warm through cooler months, without getting too hot in warmer months. These socks are knitted from the top-down with a short-row heel, and feature a beautiful, twisted stitch snowflake motif. Wear them around the house or pair them with boots for cold weather activities!

Azurea Knit Socks

If you’re a knitter who doesn’t like how standard sock sizes fit around the calves or ankles, look no further than the Azurea Knit Socks by Lorilee Beltman. The pattern for these socks is curvy-ankle friendly and knit with superfine yarn made up of superwash Merino and nylon. The calf and ankle portion of the sock stretch to almost 150% of the unstretched circumference. A beautiful stacked flower pattern on the sock adds interest and a delicate touch. This lace sock pattern is toe-up, with a star toe and a heel flap.

Time Traveler Socks

Adapting old stitch patterns to make more updated versions is a fun part of knitting that can make projects feel fresh and new! Jennifer Raymond updated a stitch pattern found in a vintage book in the Time Traveler Socks. These toe-up socks are knitted with a blend of superwash Merino and nylon, so they have some stretch. The classic zig-zag lace pattern is addictive and beautiful on the foot, and the top edge features a beautiful scalloped design.

Sabrina Socks

If your feet are always cold like mine, the Sabrina Socks, designed by Corrina Ferguson, may be your next favorite pair. These socks are knit in a superwash Merino wool yarn, so they’ll be sure to keep your toes warm and comfortable in the soft knit. The top-down socks feature a lace pattern that points at the top of the foot. This pattern is unique and does not have a traditional heel; instead, the gusset is worked in patterned increases.

As any knitter knows, handknit socks are so much more than just regular socks. Add some elegance to your sock drawer with a pair, or several pairs, of lace socks. With many options to try, your sock collection will be the envy of others. Cast on your new favorite pair with this collection of lace sock knitting patterns!
