Knitting Socks: Matching Striped Socks

Project

Salt Water Taffy Socks by Amy Detjen

Knitting socks from self-striping yarn always seems like a good idea, doesn’t it? You get beautiful, color stripes with no ends to weave in. This is important in sock knitting because if you’re not careful, weaving in ends can leave bumps where you don’t want them, like on the sole of your foot!

It’s so fun to watch the stripes appear as you’re knitting, and there are many, many great self-striping sock yarns out there, too. The first pair of socks I knitted was from self-striping yarn. I loved the process, but not so much the finished object. I knit merrily along one the first sock, and when it was done, started the second. I didn’t make any effort to match the stripes in the second sock to the first, and when I was done, it looked like I had two different socks. I was really disappointed!

Lest you think I’m too terribly particular, I know that some knitters love the mismatched striped look, but I’m just not one of them. If I’m putting all that effort into knitting socks, I want them to match!

There are ways to accomplish this, such as figuring out the stripe sequence of a skein of yarn and beginning each sock at the same point. But you really have to make sure of the sequence because some dyers use the same color sequence, but vary the color runs to add wider stripes in some sequences. Ask me how I know this …

Knitcircus Corriedale Sock in Salt Water Taffy

We’ve taken the guess work out of it for you with our Salt Water Taffy sock kit. We partnered with Knitcircus and Amy Detjen to create the Perfectly Portioned Toe-Up Gradient Sock Kit!

Knitcircus dyed the yarn in the gorgeous salt water taffy colorway, and then rolled up two identical balls for each kit, so you’ll get two matching socks.

Amy Detjen’s Salt Water Taffy pattern showcases the yarn beautifully and adds a little interest with a knit and purl stitch pattern that goes up the side of the socks. It’s just the right amount of adornment for these eye-catching socks!

We love partnering with the best in the business to bring you fun and interesting knitting kits, and this one fits the bill perfectly.

Get your Perfectly Portioned Toe-Up Gradient Sock Kit today and start knitting socks! After all, who doesn’t love a little salt water taffy?

Cheers,
