Knitting Off the Axis, Mathew Gnagy Visits the KDTV Set and Demos the Bethany Cardigan

Knitting Daily TV welcomes many well-known faces of the industry to the set each season, and even some up-and-coming designers. Mathew Gnagy, author of the new book Knitting Off the Axis (Interweave, 2011), has been designing patterns years and has recently broken into the knitwear world with his unique knitwear construction knowledge and design. Building his knitwear designs from his patterning past, he puts together one-of-a-kind sweaters using the concept of paper patterning where pieces of each garment are laid out in creative ways and joined together to showcase great shaping and fit. His stitches are anything but straight.

Watch Mathew's segment on Knitting Daily TV Episode 710 where he joins Eunny to talk about his designs:

Mathew's work is structural in design, and the Bethany Cardigan shown in this episode is a perfect example of how his complicated shaping can be broken down into easy short-row shaping in areas of each knitted pieces of a garment. Try your hand at the Bethany Cardigan, a free download on This nautical-inspired cardi incorporates not only incredible shaping, but textural stitches and design details that make it a show stopper.

The timeless nature of this sweater means its the perfect pattern for any age, and can be designed in a classic hue or a fun, bright color for a more trendy look. Either way, the design elements will take center stage!
