knitscene Winter 2018: Millcroft Shawl

I know what you’re thinking: is this stripes-obsessed person going to write YET ANOTHER post about how much she loves stripes? I hate to be predictable, but I totally am! The Millcroft Shawl from knitscene Winter 2018 is my latest stripey obsession, and I think it will become yours, too.

This playful-yet-sophisticated shawl is an asymmetrical triangle worked back and forth from a side point to the opposite edge. It uses both garter- and stockinette-stitch rows for fun textural contrast throughout. The generous finished size (63 inches along the upper edge and 27 inches tall at the point of the triangle) makes it a fantastic winter layering piece—you can throw around your shoulders to keep office drafts at bay and then wrap it around your neck for a cozy layer under your coat.

The yarn, Indigodragonfly DK Matter, is an ultra-soft and ultra-warm 100% superwash Merino wool. This shawl features five original (and creatively named) colorways that work together beautifully to create a charming accessory that will easily transition from fall to winter to spring. The lovely yarn colors drew me to this project almost as much as the stripes—turquoise is my favorite color, and gray-yellow-turquoise is one of my absolute favorite color combos (it’s what I used for my wedding!).

I have a lot of projects in my queue this fall, but the Millcroft Shawl is definitely at the top. I just can’t resist its perfect combination of playful stripes and gorgeous colors! I’m certain that this is going to become my go-to accessory this season.
