knitscene Summer 2018: Jigsaw Top

If you haven’t tried intarsia before, the Jigsaw Top by Melissa Leapman offers a fine introduction. Just like assembling a great jigsaw puzzle, this colorful, exciting top is incredibly satisfying to watch as it takes shape. Unusually-shaped blocks of color, joined by the crisp right angles characteristic of intarsia knitting, holds your attention from cast-on to bind-off.

If you love bright colors, you’ll adore the intriguing color palette we’ve chosen in Lana Grossa Cammello, a truly fearless mix of magenta, yellow, blue, and teal. A bit leery of taking on such a vibrant color palette? Imagine instead a Jigsaw Top in a grayscale colorway, or in different tints and shades of a single hue like blue or purple!

Whatever colors you choose for your Jigsaw Top, you’ll love to both knit and wear it. Don’t let the intarsia scare you off—this simple geometric design is one of the easiest ways to get started with this technique, and there’s a wonderful how-to in the pages of knitscene.
