knitscene Summer 2018: Boardwalk Top

The perfect knitted tank top is an elusive idea, and it’s unique to each of us. For me, the perfect tank has to be lightweight but provide enough coverage so that I don’t have to wear another tank top under it, have a fun design but not anything so bold that it will clash with what I’m wearing on the bottom, and have a flattering fit that’s not too clingy or too loose. These high standards have made it difficult to find tops I like, but after years of searching, I’ve finally met my tank top soul mate: the Boardwalk Top! This gorgeous, flattering top from knitscene Summer 2018 meets all my tank top criteria.

This classy, modest, and super-stylish knitted tank top has a garter-stitch base and a subtle diagonal lace feature that lends interest to the top without being overpowering. The yarn, Shibui Knits Drift, is a blend of extrafine merino and cashmere and it is DIVINE. It’s light and airy and oh-so-soft, and I want to wear it all the time, always. The gray color is subdued but not dull, and it goes with just about everything. I love it paired with a bold print, as we styled it in the magazine, but it would also look good with simple, solid-color shorts. This top can also dress up or down, so you’ll feel confidently elegant whether you’re going to an evening concert or the farmers’ market.

If you’re on a quest for the perfect knitted tank top, look no further! The Boardwalk Tank is exactly what you’ve been searching for. Cast on today so you have plenty of time to wear it this summer!
