Knits Gifts 2018: XOXO Mitts

We all know that X’s and O’s are shorthand for hugs and kisses . . . but which is the hug and which is the kiss? In the XOXO Mitts, designed by Donna Kay for the delightful Interweave Knits Gifts 2018 issue, it doesn’t matter which is the hug and which is the kiss. All that matters is the love poured into every stitch, from you to your recipient (even if that lucky person is you)!

These intermediate-level, folk inspired fingerless gloves are patterned with a cute geometric cross pattern. The half-finger design will keep your hands warm and your fingers free when the weather turns cold. You’ll want these mitts on hand (pun intended) for all your winter activities, from collecting firewood to snapping pictures on snowy walks.

The design features stovepipe fingers, a traditional colorwork body, and ribbed cuffs for a simple yet elegant accessory. I once tried to design a pair of mitts like these for myself, and wound up with fingers sticking out all around the palm, sort of like a frog foot. But Donna Kay’s pattern does all the work for you and keeps this project interesting without being too much of a challenge.

You’ll find tons of adorable handknit gift ideas in this lovely holiday issue of Interweave Knits, from fingerless mitts to stuffed animals to a plethora of hats. Which one will you cast on first? Grab your copy today and find out!
