Knits, Articles & I-Cord for the Holidays!

Yes, it’s September and the Knits Gifts 2015 issue is out in the world. It seems crazy early to for a holiday issue, but this gives us about three and a half months to knit all of the gifts for the holidays this year. It never hurts to start early!

This issue has projects for the home and the family, a deluge of uniquely gorgeous mittens, and cozy winter accessories for both women and men. Check out all of the projects in the issue’s preview. Alongside the thirty plus patterns in the issue, there are several thoughtful editorial pieces to read through. We take a look at the possum fiber of Zealana Yarns, Interweave video star and designer Tanis Gray, a project through Caron United that aims to create the world’s largest knit stocking, and many more goings-on in the world of knitting in 2015.

Knits graphic designer Debbie Long and I put together a piece filled with ideas about for holiday-centric projects that you can whip up with I-cord using the Embellish-Knit tool. This tool is really great because it can help you realize the full potential of I-cord, without having to put in hours and hours knitting the cord by hand. Load up the machine with sport weight or thinner yarn and literally crank out yards of I-cord in no time.

What can you make with strips of I-cord? You can make colorful shoe laces . . .

. . . a macramé plant hanger . . .

or fish bowl hanger!

. . . or decorate your holiday tree with sparkly garland and wire lettering!

Find instructions for these projects and more in Knits Gifts 2015 and share your ideas with us! What have you made or would you make with I-cord strips using the EmbellishKnit? Use the hashtag #EmbellishKnit and tweet your ideas and pictures at @knittingdaily or tag @interweavecraft on Instagram. We are excited to hear about all the ways we can use I-cord this holiday season. Are you interested in participating but don’t have an EmbellishKnit? You can order one right from our Knitting Daily shop and get crankin’!

Happy knitting and holiday gifting!
