Interweave Knits Summer 2018: Indigo Trader Cardigan

Ladies, are you ready for women’s winter? You know, that time of year when air conditioners blast frigid air everywhere you go and you end up freezing in your cute summer sundresses and shorts? It’s called “summer” by most, or so I’ve heard.

For years, I’ve been taking a sweater with me everywhere in the warmer months because you never know who’s going to have their A/C turned up to 11. I’m currently evaluating my cardigan collection and deciding how many I should add before the inevitable onslaught of freezing air, and I think I’ve found just the one I need: the Indigo Trader Cardigan from Interweave Knits Summer 2018.

I know what you might be thinking: Isn’t that sweater a little heavy for summer? Nope! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to the movies or an airport or a restaurant and wished for a bulky cardigan to protect myself from the overzealous air conditioning. (Also, I’m planning some mountain trips this summer, and this sweater is perfect for chilly nights and mornings at altitude.)

Vanessa Ewing’s Indigo Trader Cardigan is not only warm, it’s also absolutely beautiful. The front is knit in simple but lovely garter stitch, and the bold, graphic intarsia motif on the back— inspired by the colors and traditional weavings of the American Southwest—is delightful and unexpected. The high-low hem and toggle buttons add the perfect finishing touches.

Knit in Harrisville Designs Turbine, a 100% virgin wool yarn, this cardigan is just the layer I need this summer. Plus, this piece will easily transition into fall and winter, when I’ll need protection from natural instead of human-made chills. Prepare yourselves for women’s winter with the Indigo Trader Cardigan! And be sure to check out the rest of the Trading Post Trail story in Knits Summer for other handknit layering pieces. You can never have too many!
