Interweave Knits Summer 2021: Top 3 Pattern Picks

Three projects from Interweave Knits Summer 2021: A striped shawl, a geometric colorwork top, and a pair of cabled socks.
Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

One of the challenges when it comes to choosing designs for a new issue of Interweave Knits is finding the right balance of project types. I’m an unabashed garment lover. I recognize the beauty shawls and socks, and I’ve knit a few, but when it comes time to cast on, I almost always go with a sweater. If I had my druthers, you’d likely get an issue with fifteen sweater patterns. But I recognize the same isn’t true for all our readers. On our small Interweave yarn team alone, we have knitters of with more well-rounded preferences.

For this reason, I always enjoy looking at the top patterns for an issue — it gives us invaluable feedback about what you like (and don’t like!) both in terms of aesthetic, but also project type.

Top 3 Patterns: Interweave Knits Summer 2021

The top three projects from Interweave Knits Summer 2021 prove, once again, that variety is key. Without further ado, here are your top 3 patterns.

Pelagic Shawl by Susanna IC

If I were the shawl-wearing type, the Pelagic Shawl would be right up my alley. The squishy garter stitch stripes paired with slipped stitches create a shawl you can wrap up and get lost in. The asymmetrical shawl is generously sized and is worked in a super-soft sport-weight wool/nylon blend from Ancient Arts Yarns.

Novaturient Top by Renate Kamm

I’m glad we all agree that Renate Kamm hit an absolute home run with our cover project, the Novaturient Top. From the graphic colorwork pattern, to the keyhole shoulder details complete with tassels, this top has everything we love. The Novaturient Top is worked in HiKoo Cobasi, a fingering- weight yarn comprised of summery fibers, and comes in eight sizes, up to a 63” bust.

Peregrinate Socks by Mone Dräger

I fell in love with these socks at the photoshoot, so much so that I’m making time in my sweater schedule to get these on the needles. They are squishy and soft, and I love the folded cuff detail. Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock yarn will give these socks longevity, so you can wear them with abandon. The Peregrinate Socks are knit from the cuff to the toe and offer three different foot circumference sizes; the length is adjustable.

Whether you like to knit garments in the summer or if you switch fully over to accessories, Interweave Knits Summer 2021 has patterns to tempt you. Let us know what your favorite project is from the issue in the comments!

Happy Knitting,
Stephanie
