Happy Birthday to Me: New Knitting Needles!
My birthday was on Monday, and I ordered myself something really special—our editor’s choice set of addi® Turbo Rocket needles.
Our editors worked with the wonderful folks at Skacel to develop this unique needle set. What makes it different is that it’s a set of fixed cable needles, not interchangeable. I have a couple of sets of interchangeable needles, and I like them for certain types of projects, but I do like the smooth join of fixed cable needles.
The great thing about these particular needles is that the tips are longer and more pointed than other addi® needles, which makes for easy, fast, and efficient knitting. Our set includes eight 32-inch circular needles in sizes 3 (3.25 mm), 4 (3.5 mm), 5 (3.75 mm), 6 (4 mm), 7 (4.5 mm), 8 (5 mm), 9 (5.5 mm), 10 (6 mm), and it includes a needle case, too.
I love that size 3s are included. Many sets start at size 4s, but I think 3s are important for working ribbing and other trims on smaller-gauge sweaters.
I have a couple of pairs of addi Turbo Rockets, but they don’t have 32-inch cables, which is my favorite length. It’s the most versatile size, I think; long enough for sweaters and magic loop socks or anything
Using nice knitting needles and yarn is one of the beautiful things about knitting. Watching the yarn slip effortlessly from needle to needle while seeing your beautiful fabric grow is one of the wonders of knitting.
And I have to say, these needles help you knit fast. But that’s not always the ultimate goal in knitting. Sometimes it’s necessary, such as when you’re working on holiday gifts or baby shower gifts, but just the act of knitting, at whatever speed, is therapeutic and satisfying.
I’m really treating myself with these knitting needles, and I can’t wait to get them! Join me and get yourself a set of these fabulous needles, too.
P.S. Do you have knitting needles that you turn to time and again? Leave a comment below and tell me about them!
