2018: Lassen Peak Hat

I’m forever a sucker for hats and cables so Sloane Rosenthal’s Lassen Peak Hat from Interweave Knits Gifts 2018 is quite possibly my favorite project from this issue.

Its dramatic cables create a bold chevron-inspired pattern that radiates out from central spines. The design is beautifully balanced thanks to the adorable oversized pom-pom and the stockinette at the top of the hat.

The Lassen Peak Hat is a quintessential gifts project because it’s a super-fast knit that doesn’t take too much yarn and is a blast to knit. And it’s super versatile, allowing you to knit a beanie or a slouched version.

The yarn, Queensland Collection Kathmandu Aran 100, is warm, light-weight, tweedy-goodness you’ll love working with without breaking the bank.

FINISHED SIZE 19¼ (23)” circumference and 8¼” tall for a beanie or 9¾” tall for a slouch. Hat shown is a slouch that measures 19¼”.

YARN Queensland Collection Kathmandu Aran 100 (85% wool, 10% silk, 5% cashmere; 208 yd [190 m]/3½ oz [100 g]): #18 seaweed, 2 skeins. Yarn distributed by Knitting Fever.

NEEDLES Size 5 (3.75 mm): 16″ circular (cir). Size 7 (4.5 mm): 16″ cir and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

NOTIONS Markers (m); cable needle (cn); tapestry needle.

GAUGE 25 sts and 32 rnds = 4″ in cable patt on larger needle.
