2018: Dear Snow Cowl

Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever lost a scarf. Raise your other hand if it was a scarf that you really loved and you’re still sad that it’s gone. Yup, me too. My scarf was cream and hot pink stripes; I knit it in college, and I even made mittens to match. I wore it to dinner and a movie several years later and didn’t even miss it until I got home. I still don’t know if it slipped off the back of my chair in the restaurant or fell on the floor in the movie theater, never to be seen again. Looking through the pages of Interweave Knits Gifts 2018, I thought about my missing scarf and how it might be time to replace it.

This time, rather than making a scarf, I’m planning to knit a cowl. A cowl seems like a safer bet: they’re circular, so you can hook them over the back of your chair and it can’t slide off. They also can’t work their way off your neck as you’re trudging through the snow. The Dear Snow Cowl combines two of my favorite knitting things: stranded colorwork and cute animals. Stranded colorwork makes the knitting go so much faster! And I also love a reindeer motif. Here’s to making new warm accessories that you love, and to hopefully not losing them!

Are you ready to make a new favorite cowl?
