Get Set for Winter with the Millcroft Shawl
There are projects you add to your queue knowing that it will take you a while to get to them, and then there are projects you add to your queue and cast on for immediately. For me, the Millcroft Shawl from knitscene Winter 2018 is definitely the latter type of project! I’ve been itching to get this knit shawl on my needles since I first laid eyes on it, and I can’t wait to finish it because I know it’s going to be my go-to wrap this winter.
So what’s so great about the Millcroft Shawl? Everything! It has literally everything I love in a shawl: it’s warm, it’s soft, it’s striped (you guys know I love stripes), and it uses my favorite colors. The garter- and stockinette-stitch rows provide really interesting texture, and the asymmetrical shape adds a funky touch. It’s also super versatile—I can wrap up in it while I’m lounging at home, bundle up with it under a coat when I’m out for a walk, and wear it as a statement piece when I’m out with friends. It’s a striking accessory people will definitely want to know more about.
And let’s talk about the yarn! Indigodragonfly’s DK Matter is delightfully soft and smooshy, and it’s a joy to knit with and to wear. This shawl is knit in five original hand-dyed colorways (three shades of gray, a yellow, and a turquoise) that perfectly complement one another in the stripe pattern. The 100% superwash merino wool feels good against the skin but is durable enough to stand up to daily wear (which is exactly how often I’ll be wearing this shawl).
Best of all, the Millcroft Shawl is now available as a kit, so you can get everything you need in one go and start knitting ASAP. I love the convenience and ease of kits—it’s just so great to know that with a couple of clicks, I can get everything I need to start making my next favorite project (minus the needles, but we have those, too!).
I’ve only just started this project, as you can see in the photos, but I love it so far. I had to start over a few times as I got acquainted with new-to-me techniques (like k1, yo and joining new colors), but now that I have the hang of those, I think this project will really cruise along. The weather is just starting to cool here in Colorado, so I’ll be able to wear this shawl as soon as I’m done knitting—I can’t wait!
If you’re searching for your next go-to knit shawl, look no further: the Millcroft Shawl is exactly what you need to stay warm and stylish this winter. Get the kit today so you can be done in time for the first snow!
