From Me to You: A Gift-Knitting Guide

It's November, and many of you smart knitters already have your gift knitting well in hand. But some of us don't, and we need some ideas STAT!

We moved last weekend, and God knows where my stash is, so I'm out this year, methinks. But it's not too late for you! Save yourself!

I've put together a list of quick gifts that I think folks will really appreciate.

Clockwise from top: McHenry, Dauphine Hat, Pinch Hat,
____ Cardigan from New American Knits, and the Walker Scarf

McHenry by Susan Anderson is perfect if you have a child to knit for. Who doesn't like a stuffed doggie? This little guy stands inches tall—perfect for little hands! He makes a great stocking stuffer.

Do you need a gift for a knitter? Julia Farwell-Clay's Dauphine Hat kit fits the bill. My knitting group usually has a gift exchange, and I'm going with the Dauphine kit this year. The recipient will love it! We offer four colors, so you can customize the gift, too.

Cecily Glowik MacDonald's Pinch Hat is a simple design, worked flat in garter stitch with basic crown shaping. The hat is seamed after knitting then the seaming yarn is cinched to ruche the side of the hat. It's such a simple technique, but it makes a big statement. These hats are quick enough that you could knit one for all of the gals on your list.

Don't forget a gift for yourself! After all of your holiday knitting is done, you'll be ready to cast on something new. I hightly recommend Amy Christoffers' book New American Knits. Amy takes her inspiration from the clean lines and elegant functionality of American sportswear, and creates projects that have a nostalgic feel even as they are perfectly suited for modern life today. She focuses on beautiful everyday sweaters and useful knitted accessories. Her Remington Cardigan, shown above, is beautiful.

And last but certainly not least, we need something for the guys on your list! I picked the Walker Scarf by Andrea Babb because I think it's perfect. It's masculine, but elegant, and knit with a merino/silk/cashmere blend, your guys will want to wear it every day.

So there you have it! Something for everyone on your list, including yourself. Now get to knitting.

P.S. How far are you on your gift knitting? Leave a comment and brag (or not)!
