3 Faves from Interweave Knits Fall 2021

Collage of projects from Interweave Knits Fall 2021
Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

I always love seeing the projects people make with our patterns. When an issue gets released, I look forward to perusing the new creations knitters bring into our world. It’s one of the best things about looking back at the Ravelry entries for our issues, as we do often to check in on what projects are resonating with you.

At Interweave, we usually end up making many of the patterns we publish. Recently, for example, our project editor Joni Coniglio made the Hidden Paths Wall Hanging by designer Lana Jois in a gorgeous green/gray yarn. She shared photos with me of the final piece, and I asked if she might write a little description of her knitting process to share:

Joni’s Hidden Paths Wall Hanging

My daughter and her husband bought a house just before the pandemic turned the world upside down. They live a few states away, so it was about a year and a half before we were finally able to fly out to see them again. In the interim, they’d done quite a bit of work on the house. They’d added several pieces to the living room walls, including artwork, photos, and a beautiful macramé wall hanging. As we admired the house, my daughter said, “I’m looking for more wall hangings; I really like them.”

I whipped out my phone and pulled up photos of the Hidden Paths Wall Hanging from Interweave Knits Summer 2021 and said, “What do you think about a knitted one?” Her response was immediate and enthusiastic: “That’s beautiful! Yes, I would love that!” So as soon as I got home, I started to work. Since the macramé wall hanging was off-white, I decided to go with a soft green for my knitted version.

For the dowel, I added a drawer pull to each end and finished the whole thing with urethane.

The dowel for the Hidden Paths Wall Hanging

Sewing the wall hanging to the dowel took less than 10 minutes. I wrapped the yarn over the dowel from back to front for each loop and inserted the tapestry needle into the back of each stitch along the cast-on row (it’s worked from the top down) to create a nice, beaded effect.

This was a quick, easy project and I love the result. I’m looking forward to seeing it in person the next time we visit!

Julia’s Interweave Knits Fall Faves

Joni’s gorgeous wall hanging got me thinking about what new Interweave patterns I want to make. Today, I wanted to bring you three of my faves from the most recent Fall 2021 issue of Interweave Knits. Hopefully, these will inspire you to find patterns this fall that you want to bring to life!

Lustrous Shawl knitting pattern

Lustrous Shawl

The Lustrous Shawl by designer Lana Jois is exactly the sort of shawl that calls to me. The shimmering, drapey yarn works beautifully with the twining pattern of leaves and lace that grows up the shawl as you knit. The asymmetrical shape of the piece also means it can be styled in many different ways

Flexuous Pullover

I’m a sucker for cabled sweaters, and the Flexuous Pullover by designer Moira Engel is no exception. Twisted stitches make cables that particularly pop over a background of reverse stockinette. The front and back of this pullover are worked in pieces from the bottom up and seamed, and sleeves are picked up around the armholes and worked in the round.

Unbound Hat knitting pattern

Unbound Hat

Y’all know how I feel about hats, so it should be no surprise that I can’t wait to make the Unbound Hat by designer Yiǧitcan Vatansever. This extra slouchy beanie is perfect for days when I’ve clipped my hair up. Gorgeous cables twist their way over reverse stockinette, winding together to a beautiful crown for a striking, modern hat.

The collections from Interweave Knits Fall 2021 are two of my favorites, and I’m so excited to see what people create with them. Here’s hoping you’re inspired to make beautiful things this fall. And, as always,

Happy Knitting,
Julia
