Top 5 Favorite Interweave Sock Patterns

3 Sock Knitting Patterns
Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

Sock knitting is one of those things that many knitters find intimidating. Heck, I was one of them until I tried knitting socks last year and discovered I really enjoy it! Knitted socks usually look more daunting than they actually are, and you’re rewarded at the end with a beautiful, functional pair of socks that you’ll want to wear all the time. To celebrate Socktober, and to encourage you to brave the waters of sock knitting, I’ve brought you five of our favorite sock patterns to inspire your yarn-y dreams this month.

On-Your-Toes Socks

Designer Ann Budd has created the ultimate flexible sock pattern with her On-Your-Toes Socks. Work these gorgeously ribbed socks to whatever length you’d prefer, from mid-calf to knee-highs. This pattern avoids Kitchener stitch by working the socks from toe up, and the straightforward ribbed pattern is perfect for a simple but beautiful pair of socks.

Slippery Slope Socks

A personal favorite of mine, the Slippery Slope Socks by designer General Hogbuffer use slip-stitch colorwork to create a sinuous design over a colorful background. Worked in the round from the cuff down, this sock pattern pairs two different yarns to create the bright, geometric cables that cascade down to the toes.

Frondescent Socks

Knit some greenery to last the whole year round with the Frondescent Socks by designer Andrea Lai! These stunning colorwork socks are worked from the cuff down with a peasant heel. Andrea cleverly designed these socks to eliminate the need to trap long floats, making them comfy to wear. I love the green and white of the original design, but I’d love to make a more autumnal pair—perhaps in deep brown and bright red!

Fredag Socks

On chilly autumn nights, I’m always in search of a nice, cozy pair of socks. Designer Rachel Brockman’s Fredag Socks are knit in a heavier weight of yarn—a DK-weight, wool blend—making them perfect for relaxing nights in. Cuffs and toes in a contrasting color perfectly counterbalance the cables that wind their way down to the toe.

Emerging Roses Socks

Stunning floral motifs and silky yarn combine in designer Aud Bergo’s Emerging Roses Socks. This show-stopping sock pattern is worked from the cuff down using stranded colorwork, and the cotton/bamboo/silk blend sock yarn ensures creates a silky-smooth fabric.
