Favorite Beanie Knitting Patterns for Cooler Temperatures

Brighton Knit Hat, by Megan Nodecker
Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

Here in Northern Colorado, the weather is finally just barely chilly enough for sweaters and beanies, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Knitted beanies are among my go-to accessories, worn from fall to spring in varying weights and fibers depending on the weather. To start the beanie-weather celebration, we selected five of our all-time favorite beanie knitting patterns that will get you and your ears ready for cozy fall temperatures.

You can get each pattern individually, or get the pattern collection with all five to fill up your hat collection with great designs!

Côte-Nord Knit Cap, by Amy Christoffers

Côte-Nord Cap

Welcome fall with a coastal-inspired beanie. The Côte-Nord Cap, made by Amy Christoffers, draws inspiration from its namesake, the beautiful north coast in Quebec, Canada. This hat features low-relief cables with knit-purl patterns that make it more than just your traditional cabled beanie. The beanie knitting pattern is knitted with a 100% Merino wool worsted weight yarn to ensure that you stay warm throughout the cold season.

Brisbane Knit Beanie, by Cheryl Toy

Brisbane Beanie

If you are a fan of a more delicate look when it comes to your knitwear, you may want to cast on Cheryl Toy’s Brisbane Beanie. This beanie uses fingering weight cashmere yarn that shows off the beautiful stitch patterns used throughout the hat. Ribbing, interlocking cables, and lace blend together for a sleek filigree look. You’ll want to wear this beautiful project all season and well into sping.

Brighton Hat

Whether you are a beginner looking to try your first colorwork project or an advanced knitter looking for something fun and easy, the Brighton Hat by Megan Nodecker is a great project to add to your queue. This hat is worked in the round from the bottom up and uses cozy 1×1 colorwork to bridge between two solid colors. The slouchy look is perfect for any casual fall outfit and it is comfortable to wear, made with yarn in a blend of Merino wool, brushtail possum, and silk.

Mason’s Knit Hat, by Carol Feller

Mason’s Hat

Create a reversible masterpiece with Carol Feller’s Mason’s Hat. This project features richly textured cables that look just as good on the reverse side. The soft tweedy yarn, made of 100% Merino wool, gives the cables even more texture, making for an eye-catching project. For a complete set, you can also make the equally reversible Mason’s Scarf. The complete set is perfect for those chilly outdoor activities!

Tree Boughs & Trails Knit Hat, by Clare Lakewood

Tree Boughs & Trails Hat

Take a stroll through the woods to see the fall leaves while wearing Clare Lakewood’s Tree Boughs & Trails Hat. The project takes a modern approach to traditional German twisted-stitch patterns. This beanie features unique leaf stitch patterns and winding cables throughout. Worsted weight yarn in 100% Merino wool helps the stitches pop and ensures that your ears stay warm when it gets breezy.

The Interweave Favorites beanie knitting pattern collection has a design for every knitter to warm up their beanie collection in time for cold fall weather. Cast on a colorwork project or give in to texture with cables. Your new hat (or hats!) will become your go-to cool weather staple. We hope you enjoy this collection as much as we do!
