Exploring Norwegian Knitting

Nordic Headband by Donna Druchunas

Knitting Daily TV is back, and it's better than ever. In the fourteenth season, Vickie Howell and her guests take a holistic approach to yarn crafting! From spinning to knitting and crochet, Knitting Daily TV covers the whole spectrum.

One of my favorite designers, Donna Druchunas, visited Knitting Daily TV to share her expertise in Norwegian knitting. She showed several pairs of Norwegian-style mittens, and shared a headband she designed in the Nordic style.

Donna's Nordic Headband, shown at left, features the snowflake motif combined with fir tree and zigzag motifs to suggest nature and the life cycles of plants fed by running waters.

Made from a double layer of fabric in a soft cashmere-blend yarn, the band is warm enough for the ski slopes yet comfortable enough to wear for everyday winter errands.

Here's a preview of the KDTV episode that features Donna:

This season on KDTV, learn new stitches each episode from instructor Tanis Gray. Get into the thick and thin of yarn as expert guests explore scale by spinning super fine fibers and working with on-trend mega-bulky yarns.

In addition, we head overseas to get inspiration from traditional Norwegian knitting. Closer to home, it's all the best—Made in North America. Enjoy sweater weather by learning what style is best for your shape, and discover clever cast-ons and special sleeve treatments. Then whip up some fun accessories, knit with beads, and make projects for your kids' playtime. You'll see why, no matter how busy you are each day, it‘s essential to knit daily!

Download the free pattern for the Nordic Headband, and then pre-order Knitting Daily TV series 1400 on DVD (it'll ship on or around January 1, 2015) or download the the first episode of the new season now!
