It’s been cold in Colorado; frozen-fog cold, wear your socks AND slippers cold. I love winter, really I do, but as we trudge along through February, I’m ready to be done. Alas, the weather has other ideas. So, in the spirit of digging in and making the most of a frigid February, I present to
you the most popular patterns from our knitscene Presents: The Wintertide Collection, a collection full of the types of cozy sweaters and snug accessories that will help you enjoy winter, as long as it sticks around.

Piste Poncho by Estefania Espindola

I fell in love with this poncho as soon as I saw it, and it looks like I’m not alone! The Piste Poncho features a dramatic center back cable, and is covered in the kind of texture you just want to cuddle up in. The smaller zig zag cables are great for practicing cabling without a cable needle.

Layer this cozy poncho over your warmest long johns and welcome that extra month of winter.

Satstrugi Cowl by Courtney Spainhower

The Satstrugi Cowl is long enough that you can wrap it around twice—a necessity on extra-cold days. The unique stitch pattern is actually pretty simple: garter stitch triangles outlined in yarnovers are topped with a single bobble.

If you love grafting, this is the project for you; after knitting each color section separately in the round, you’ll graft the two pieces together for a seamless-looking join.

Sometimes it’s hard to pick favorites, and that’s why we’re going with a tie for the third most popular pattern: both the Bluebird Day Pullover by Donna Estin and Twin Tip Sweater by Sanna Mård Castman have made an impression, and with good reason.

Both sweaters balance relaxing knitting (broken rib in Bluebird Day and stockinette in Twin Tip) with sections of more involved knitting (cables, colorwork, and lace). There’s still plenty of winter left, why not knit both?
