Armchair Traveler: Scotland
Our new book, Scottish Knits, is so gorgeous that nothing I write can do it justice. Knitting star Martin Storey has designed sweaters, knitted accessories, socks, and even home decor, all in vivid colorwork and fantastic patterns. A picture tells a thousand words, so here you go:
|Aviemore Coat||Skye Cardigan|
|Fyfe Cardigan||Thistle Cardigan|
The Aviemore Coat is really fabulous. Not only are the front panels knitted in appealing colorwork motifs, but the back is stylishly drapey. It can be belted, as shown in the photo above, or worn loose and flowing.
The Skye Cardigan . . . what can I say? It's stunning. This is one of those projects that I would call epic. It would probably take me at least six months to knit this, but I think I would enjoy it. Choosing colors alone would take me a couple of weeks! How lovely it is, and what pride I would take in wearing it.
Classic cables make up the Fyfe Cardigan. Those cables, the shawl collar, and the fact that it's vest-like makes it one for my queue! This one is a wardrobe-builder.
The Thistle Cardigan is actually my favorite. I love the juxtaposition of stripes and floral. And the colors are wonderful; just three of them, blue, white, and green, make such an eye-catching pattern. This is something I can really see myself wearing a lot, and it looks so fun to make, too.
