Knit a hat for the whole family with this set of three Fair Isle hats, each offered in children’s and adults’ sizes. The snowflake motif is worked in stranded colorwork in three colors. With a pattern for an earflap hat, basic stocking cap, or slouchy tam, you are sure to make a hat perfect for anyone.

Finished Size Each hat comes in two sizes: child and adult. Basic beanie (brown hat): 18 (21)” head circumference, shown in size 21″. Slouchy tam: 21 (27)” circumference at widest point, 14 (18)” brim circumference, shown in size 27″. Earflap hat: 18 (21)” head circumference, shown in size 18″.
Yarn The Fibre Company Canopy Fingering (50% alpaca, 30% merino, 20% bamboo; 200 yd [183 m]/50 g): sarsaparilla (brown), coqui (tan), and blue crown. To make all 3 hats as shown, you’ll need 2 skeins of each color. To make 1 hat, you’ll need 1 skein of each color. Yarn distributed by Kelbourne Woolens.
Yarn Weight #1 – Super Fine
Needles Ribbing. size 2 (2.75 mm): set of 4 or 5 double-pointed (dpn). Plain stockinette. size 3 (3.25 mm): set of 4 or 5 dpn. Colorwork. size 4 (3.5 mm): set of 4 or 5 dpn. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Markers (m); tapestry needle; stitch holders.
Gauge 32 sts and 36 rows = 4″ in St st on middle-size needles; 32 sts and 35 rows = 4″ in colorwork patt on largest needles.
