A Delightful Chat With Mags Kandis (Part 1)
Modern Quilt Wrap
I love my job. I get to hang out online with all you lovely knitters, I get to sit here and write about knitting, I get to fondle the glorious original of the Modern Quilt Wrap (which is currently draped across my desk, at least until I have to give it back to the book people), and I get to talk on the phone with Mags Kandis.
Yep. I'm still bubbling about that last one. I was delighted when she called. Talking with Mags is so much fun, you forget that you have to hang up and go do other things. She is energetic and funny, one of those people who makes you feel more creative just by being around them.
The reason she called is that she had seen all the questions about yardage, weaving in ends, and color choice in your comments this week, and she wanted to give you the Designer Inside Scoop. (How lovely is that of her?)
Mags on Yardage: She confirmed that you can get two scarves out of those 9 balls of Rowan KidSilk Haze. (Whoo!) I know we had the individual yarn amounts worked up by the amazing Ms. L., but Mags went and weighed her leftover yarns, just as a triple-check. So go ahead, order that scrumptious KidSilk Haze, and admit it: you still want to make the wrap for your mom/sister/daughter for Christmas, but you also secretly want one for yourself!
Mags on Weaving in Ends: Mags weaves them in as she knits, in a technique similar to that used by folks doing two-handed stranded colorwork. She even provided a link to this photo tutorial online.
Pattern Correction, Block 4: Thanks to eagle-eyed commenter Pam M., we have a correction (wow! yes, you Knitting Daily folks are really on-the-ball!) for Block 4 of the Modern Quilt Wrap. We've updated the PDF, and added a note to the pattern detail page. Thank you, Pam, and thank you to Ms. L (again) for her speedy tech-editor magic!
Are you one of those folks who considers themselves not good with color? Mags has some Color Wisdom to share with you on Monday's edition of Knitting Daily.
Sandi Wiseheart is the editor of Knitting Daily.
What's on Sandi's needles? The Red Scarf, coming soon to Knitting Daily, is drying on my blocking board. The yarn for the Husband Sweater is on backorder and may not arrive for a while. I am in serious peril of ordering nine balls of KidSilk Haze for the You Know What. (Help me, Obi Wan).
