Savor Each Stitch: 3 Favorites from Wool Studio Vol. IX
It’s always interesting to see which patterns rise to the top of our reader’s must-knit lists when we release a new pattern collection. Will our own personal favorites resonate? Or will we find new favorites as we look through the list? Wool Studio Vol. IX celebrates the tactile nature of knitting and is full of projects that encourage knitters to slow down and savor each stitch. While each project is surely worthy of a cast on, three projects stand out as clear favorites.
Petrichor Cardigan
Susanna IC | Plymouth Yarn Homestead
With a striking silhouette and elegant details, it’s no surprise the Petrichor Cardigan is a favorite. The allover texture creates the illusion of cables, but instead is worked using simple decreases and twisted yarnovers. It’s the sort of stitch pattern that strikes the balance between being engaging and meditative—my favorite type of knitting.
Worked seamlessly from the top down with raglan shaping, this flattering cardigan is easy to customize in sleeve and body length. Because I lean towards project knitting more than process knitting, I’m envisioning a cropped version that might be ready to wear just a little bit sooner.
Cuspate Sweater
Courtney Spainhower | Green Mountain Spinnery Weekend Wool
This one surprised me—the Cuspate Sweater is high on my list of must-make sweaters, but I didn’t expect to see it among the top 3 patterns. But, of course, knitters are a sensible bunch, and we all recognize a go-to sweater when we see one.
This sweater is worked in the round from the bottom up, using circular yoke shaping at the shoulders. The neck is worked using a folded hem, creating a clean collar with structure. Garter stitch details add interest at the hem and cuffs.
Ammonite Pullover
Donna Estin | Lorna’s Laces Wardrobe
The Ammonite Pullover is all about those sleeves—a dramatic cable-and-rib pattern spirals up the forearms. This is exactly the sort of unique detail that begs knitters to cast on and see how it all comes together. Here’s a hint: it involves short-rows!
The body of the pullover is worked in the round from the bottom up, and you’ll have plenty of relaxing knitting as you work through the stockinette portions.
This volume of Wool Studio was inspired by the simple natural wonders we experience every day. From the smell of the air after it rains to the texture of rocks eroded by wind, these ten projects echo the natural beauty that surrounds us, reminding us to stop and smell the roses every once in a while—and that includes in our knitting! We hope you enjoy looking at, choosing yarn for, knitting, and wearing these designs
