knits spring favorites
Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

I always look forward to springtime knitting. Fall is the traditional knitting season, but in spring I look towards color and lace, light and airy pieces after several months of long, dark nights. And what better place to find some gorgeous spring inspiration than in Interweave Knits Spring 2022?

This art nouveau-inspired issue is packed full of beautiful springtime knits, from sweaters to socks to shawls. We hope Interweave Knits Spring 2022 brings you as much joy reading it as it did to us working on it. Today, I’m sharing your favorite pieces from this issue. I hope they bring a little spring-spiration into your knitting this month.

Welkin Shawl

Your favorite piece from this issue is Lana Jois’s stunning Welkin Shawl. Knit in Ancient Arts Nettle Soft DK for a supple, drapey fabric, this shawl is a celebration of twisted stitches, cables, and lace. Work this shawl from the top down for a gorgeous springtime accessory.

Prasine Sweater

Our cover piece, the stunning Prasine Sweater by Kristen TenDyke, gets its name from the beautiful greens of the worsted-weight yarn used in the pullover. A slip-stitch colorwork pattern meant to evoke the first leaves of spring covers the body and sleeves. Work this gorgeous piece in the round from the bottom up!

Tiffany Cardigan

Kate Scalzo’s Tiffany Cardigan is one of my favorite pieces from Interweave Knits Spring 2022, and I was so pleased to see it in the top five! Inspired by the dazzling glasswork of Louis Comfort Tiffany, the cardigan features a large, two-color stranded design around its deep yoke.

Julia picked up yarn for her own version of the Tiffany Cardigan.

After the issue came out, I ran straight to my LYS to pick up yarn for my own version of this cardigan. I loved the bright yellow-gold of the contrasting color, and decided to keep that, but paired with a dusty blue yarn instead.

Avis Sweater

A celebration of spring blossoms and sweet birds, the Avis Sweater uses intarsia and stranded colorwork to create the bright, colorful designs of this pullover. This sweater is worked in the round from the bottom up. Designer Hui Wang Harbich also discusses her sources of inspiration and design tips in the issue.

Loie Shawl

The light and lacy Loie Shawl by Nancy Lekx is a beautiful springtime accessory. Gorgeous lace covers every inch of this piece, and a spine of stitches framed by yarnovers runs up the center back, giving it beautiful symmetry. This shawl is the perfect piece for cozying up in when the evenings turn a touch chilly.

I hope you find some springtime inspiration here. Let us know what your favorite patterns from Interweave Knits Spring 2022 are in the comments. And, as always,

Happy Knitting,
Julia

  1. A big thanks to all of you who liked my Loie shawl design. I was delighted to see it here in the top 5 list!
A note about the spine: the shawl is symmetrical, but the spine running down the centre back is just a single stitch, with yarnovers on either side, not a centered double decrease (CDD), as mentioned in this “5 Faves” posting. That CDD is a good techniqued to know and there are plenty of them in the design–you can see them clearly in the border–they just don’t form the spine of the shawl.
    Happy knitting,
    Nancy Lekx
