Pattern of the Week: Playful Stripes Blanket

Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

Winter is the best time for knitting big projects. I always look forward to curling up on my couch, feet tucked beneath me, knitting spread over my lap as I watch Parks and Recreation for the millionth time.

The problem with wanting to watch something while knitting is, of course, actually getting to watch the thing. I need knitting projects that are simple enough that I don’t have to be watching them constantly, but interesting enough to keep me knitting. Which is perhaps why the Playful Stripes Blanket by designer Meridith Shepherd first caught my attention.

Knit using a mitered square shape, this straightforward blanket uses colorful garter stitch stripes to break up the stockinette in which the rest of the blanket is knit. The pattern is easily memorized, making this a great blanket to knit while streaming your favorite shows!

This project also offers a great opportunity to play around with color. Pick out soft, wintery hues for a calmer feel, or knit with loud colors for a wild blanket! If you’re in need of color inspiration, check out the myriad projects people have made on Ravelry. Curl up with your favorite tea and let this colorful beauty take shape under your needles!
